Argus

Key Takeaways

  • Argus provides a ‘World Engine’ based on sharding, enabling developers to create a scalable layer network for on-chain games.

1. Overview

Argus offers a solution called the World Engine (WE), which allows developers to develop and customize on-chain games easily. The World Engine is a sharded layer 2 blockchain SDK, thereby guaranteeing security from the underlying layer 1. For the execution environment, it uses Polaris, a modular EVM framework developed by Berachain.

2. Execution

The execution environment of the World Engine consists of two parts: multiple game execution shards and a single EVM base shard. Because the game shard and the EVM shard are designed to be decoupled, this opens up a large design space for building an optimized state machine that is purpose-built for handling game-related computations.

For the EVM shard, it utilizes Polaris, a high-performance modular EVM framework developed by the Berachain team. Therefore, it provides EVM as an execution environment, and developers can use EVM-related developer tooling, wallets, and libraries. Additionally, as Polaris offers various customizing options for the EVM, it can also provide services such as subsidizing gas.

3. Interoperability

While specific details have not yet been fully disclosed, it is expected that the Game Shards and the EVM shard will be able to interoperate seamlessly through a system called the Shard Router system.
